Directors Think Tank have signed Malaysia based director Cardin Phua to work across the DTT global network.

Cardin is a director whose background began in 3D animation infused with multiple post production skills. He then got involved with projection mapping projects, it then progressed onto music videos, fashion films and social media content, working with indie artists, music subculture and brands.

He got selected for Busan AFIS in 2020/21 but had to withdraw due to the COVID situation. He has very unique skill that excels raw emotion and a real beauty in chaos/order in disorder.

Cardin’s work very much leans more towards improvisation with a decisive sense of vision, precision and intention, bringing characters and scenes to life.

Cardin has partnered with some of advertising’s most influential brands and companies. A select client list includes Uniqlo, Nike, Nescafe, and Netflix. His more recent work includes directing the opening animation sequence for Citra Pariwara 2021 with TANK3 animation director Yuer Leong.

‘‘I’m extremely excited about this opportunity to grow even more. It’s an honour to be invited to join a team of like-minded, forwarded-thinking practitioners. Directors Think Tank has an indisputable passion for the craft, and the expertise to match. The outstanding work they’re recognised for says it all. This is also a great fit, as DTT have regional networks across Asia including Singapore, Indonesia and Malaysia, as well as some amazing resources such as full service post production, the BOLT (robotic arm) Studio and the busy Film and TV content division. I really like the direction they are taking in this ‘forever’ evolving market”, said Cardin.

Stephen Douglas, Executive Director, Directors Think Tank said, “Cardin’s experimental vision is to explore the unorthodox, away from visual rules and cinematic guidelines, the grey area of human nature. His rawness and realness really attracted us. We can’t wait to see where this collaboration will take Cardin and DTT. Adding Cardin only confirms our commitment to adding young, exciting, unique and talented directors to the DTT team.”
