Judges Iris Chang, GRAB and Chai Hui Fung, Nando’s give a little sneak peek into APPIES Malaysia!
APPIES Malaysia 2018 is less than a month away!
Held on April 16 and 17, it’s gonna be a 2-day festival of sharing, learning, and excellence.

The two whole days will be filled with live presentations and rigorous judging by an impressive panel of experienced judges.
MARKETING interviewed some of this year’s APPIES Malaysia judges to get their opinions and what aspects will they be judging.

“It’s one of the biggest annual Marketing awards in Malaysia!” said Iris Chang, Country of Marketing Head of Grab Malaysia. She also believes that APPIES Malaysia has a sense of prestige about it because of how much rigour goes into determining the winners.

“In general, our consumers are served many (too many sometimes) advertisements and marketing messages all the time, therefore I look out for creative ideas that stand out and break out the clutter to effectively reach their audience.

“Personally, I also like to see an effective execution, how they use data to solve their marketing problems and most importantly, the impact on the consumer market or business,” adds Iris.

Chai Hui Fung, Regional Marketing Director of Nando’s Chickenland Malaysia thinks that APPIES Malaysia is a unique award as it’s not just a recognition for the marketers/agencies; but also a learning platform for marketers.

“It’s almost like a best practice sharing session for marketers who participate or attend the event.

“While participants get the chance to present their case in person; in real life; it’s also important for marketers to know how to justify their marketing investment, and the audience get to learn from other marketers who share their case studies,” said Hui Fung positively.

“What I will look at, is not how good (or fluffy) the presentation skill of the participants; but rather how clear they understand their challenges; how they set the objectives, their thought process of developing the idea based on insight; and that the campaign result addresses the challenge identified.

“So it’s not entirely based on how creative the idea is. Often, some of the campaigns are presented with unclear objectives or rather the result may not necessarily address the business challenge.

“The participants will need to be very clear on what they want to achieve through the campaign, and how they use insight to develop the idea, not just presenting a creative idea or scale of the campaign due to a big budget,” adds Hui Fung.

“The part that attracts me is really on how participants will be able to prove to the judges that their campaigns have driven results and addressed the brand/business challenges,” she concludes.
