Nando’s: Making a Difference One Chicken at a Time #ForMalaysiaKita

Nando’s has always believed that people come first and being an active member of the community is part of that belief. During this Covid-19 pandemic, Nando’s has so far donated over RM 50,000 to support front line workers and the vulnerable in local communities. Today, with heartfelt gratitude to front line workers, Nando’s will begin offering 40% discount to front line workers and continue putting meals on the table #ForMalaysiaKita 

Covid-19 has shone a spotlight on the real heroes of our community – the essential services including healthcare workers, police officers, auxiliary officers, F&B crews and delivery riders. Nando’s restaurant workers are its personal heroes. In appreciation for the selfless and tireless efforts made by front line workers to protect and serve the nation, Nando’s is providing a 40% discount for takeaway to front line workers from 15 April – 28 April 2020. To redeem, frontline heroes simply need to present their ID card or uniform at any operating Nando’s restaurant. 

For the frontliners at Hospital Sungai Buloh

“In these unprecedented times, Nando’s is guided by our values and belief that we can change lives, one chicken at a time.  I’m humbled by the thousands of Nandocas across our country who are living our values and contributing to the community through local charity partners. When the MCO was announced, our restaurant managers immediately rallied together to show their support and donated to police officers, hospitals and riders within their community. This inspired us to do more and to remind others that we’re in this together,” said Mac Chung Lynn, Group CEO Nando’s Malaysia. “We’re not just chicken, we’re family – that has been the core of the business and remains at the heart of what we do.” 

Nearly 5,000 meals including chicken, rice, eggs and fruit juice have been donated through local charity partners. Nando’s has been partnering with Kechara Soup KitchenYayasan FoodbankSuriana Welfare Society and GoJobMY during this crisis to ensure that the extra food will be distributed to those in need – including orphanages, the homeless and local university students.

The endless hours spent working on this project in supplying meals to our local IPTs, welfare houses and communities throughout this MCO is exceptional. On behalf of Yayasan Food Bank and our board of trustees, I would like to express my gratitude and appreciation to the ground crews who have worked hard in these difficult times to ensure this is a success. Nando’s people-first culture empowers its restaurant managers to find meaningful ways to be an active part of the community. Even prior to the pandemic Nando’s has always taken part in community runs and charity events through its restaurant managers own initiatives. Knowing that Malaysians are always looking for ways to do their part, Nando’s found ways to enable their loyalty members to donate their rewards. Nearly 300 loyalty members jumped at the chance and donated a total of 740 meals. 

Nando’s is led by its purpose to change the way people think about chicken, and the positivity it can bring to its people and the community particularly in times of crisis.
