As thousands across several states throughout Peninsular Malaysia are displaced by the extraordinary rainfall and floods, Maxis has mobilised its teams to support flood victims with initial aid including food boxes and hygiene kits along with sim packs for those in relief centres.

Maxis’ network teams have also been deployed to mitigate any network disruptions.

“We cannot imagine the challenges that individuals and families, including our customers, dealers and employees, are going through in this difficult time. We hope that this initial aid can lift the spirits of those affected. Our network teams are also working to restore affected services and have increased efforts to mitigate network disruptions so that those impacted and emergency responders can stay connected during this critical period. As we look forward to the situation to improve, we will continue to monitor the situation closely and prepare more to help overcome this difficult time together,” said Gokhan Ogut, Chief Executive Officer, Maxis.

As part of Maxis’ collaboration with Yayasan Kebajikan Negara (YKN), food boxes are made available at YKN’s regional offices in KL, Johor Bahru, Ipoh, Penang, Kuala Terengganu, Kota Kinabalu and Kuching.

Meanwhile, Maxis is working with the Malaysian Red Crescent Society (MRCS) to distribute more food boxes in the East Coast as well as Klang Valley, Negeri Sembilan, Melaka and Johor, which will be deployed from MRCS offices in the respective states.

Separately, Maxis is supporting MRCS’ efforts in handing out hygiene kits containing necessities such as towels, soap, sanitary napkins, disposable razors, toothpastes and brushes, body soap and toilet paper. Distribution is being made through officers and volunteers from YKN and MRCS.

YKN Chief Executive Officer, Nordina Haron said, “Our teams are taking swift action in expanding relief efforts to the many needy victims. We are grateful for our collaboration with Maxis which will help us to further extend our help and care for the thousands of affected individuals and families.”

MRCS Chairperson, Her Highness Dato’ Sri DiRaja Tan Sri Tunku Puteri Intan Safinaz binti Almarhum Sultan Abdul Halim Mu’adzam Shah said, “Although the floodwaters in many areas are receding, thousands are still displaced and rendered homeless, so the work to help our fellow citizens must continue. This seed contribution comes at the right time as we are ramping up our assistance to communities across the nation that have been severely affected by the recent floods.”

Maxis is also expediting the distribution of sim packs to flood relief centres in multiple states, with the initial phase focusing on the East Coast states including Kelantan, Terengganu and Pahang, so that victims can quickly get connected with their friends and loved ones.

The Company is also extending its support for dealers whose stores have been inundated by the flood, and so that they can quickly resume operations, will be assisting in cleaning up, repairs and the refurbishment of point-of-sale items.
