APPIES Malaysia judges share their opinions..
The annual festival celebrating the best marketing ideas, APPIES Malaysia is back!
The APPIES Malaysia Marketing Festival will be held on 16 and 17, April 2018.
What distinguishes APPIES Malaysia from any other event is that each featured campaign is presented Live by the brand marketers and campaign creators themselves before an impressive panel of judges and an industry audience.
MARKETING interviewed some of this year’s APPIES Malaysia judges to get their opinions and what aspects will they be judging.

Adam Wee Abdullah, Chief Judge APPIES Malaysia  2018, and Group Chief Marketing Officer & Group Chief Customer Experience Officer CIMB Group believes that participation in the APPIES Malaysia is important for marketers and brand agencies to hone their skills and knowledge to produce and present effective campaigns.

“It’s a pressure test where your peers and industry experts will be your audience and have the chance to query your ideas. It’s a show where everybody wins,” added Adam.

“In the past two decades, we have seen the decline of traditional media and the explosion of digital media whilst the audience is only growing at a marginal pace.

“ADEX increases are fueled by new sectors and not so much from the established sectors.

“Whilst it may be easier to reach your audience today, it may not be as easy to hold their attention and keep them interested.

“This year at the APPIES, I am expecting to see better use of data analysis to draw better insights and plans, better marketing measurements, more digitally oriented campaigns, and better creativity and innovation.”

Tai Kam Leong, Head of Branding & Partnerships at Maxis commented that APPIES Malaysia is a great platform for the lost art of articulation and persuasion, sharing and friendly competition aside.

“How they turn learnings into something that identifies with customers and creates sustainable action worth sharing is key,” said Tai when asked what aspects he’ll be looking at as a judge.

Lai Shu Wei, VP, Mass Market Marketing & Operations at TM Berhad shared, “In the drastic evolution in consumer trends and technologies, the APPIES continues to translate in-depth insights into great ideas, and bringing them to consumers’ lives.

Expect brands and products to step up in their play to create the best in marketing and advertising. I always look at the ability to leverage an insight into an outstanding proposition and campaign,” said Shu Wei.

After 20 years of evolving technology, shifting market trends, and adapting to changing consumer behaviour, the media landscape has nearly reached saturation.

We’ve optimised to the fullest, providing advertisers with abundant choices across technology, platforms, data-driven marketing, CTV, OTTDOOHinfluencer marketing, retail, etc.

Media specialists have diversified, but with more options comes the challenge of maintaining income growth. The industry is expanding, but revenue isn’t keeping pace.

Now, we’re at a TURNING POINT: time to explore and harness new sustainable revenue streams. While GroupM forecasts a 7.8% global ad revenue growth in 2024, challenges like antitrust regulation, AI and copyright issues, and platform bans persist.

Collaboration is keypartnerships that thrive on synergy, shared values, and aligned goals are becoming increasingly essential.

Hence, the Malaysian Media Conference, in its 20th year, has assembled the partners and players under one roof on October 25 for a day of learning, sharing, and exploring.
