May the 4th be with you

Following the Prime Minister’s announcement to ease MCO restrictions beginning the 4th of May, INTI International University & Colleges’ (INTI) released a video to safely wish members of the public returning to the workforce on Monday.

The institution’s 10-second video clip follows themes from renowned sci-fi blockbuster, Star Wars, and depicts Malaysian Health Director General, Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah as a Jedi with a lightsaber battling the fatal COVID-19 disease. The battle then ends with a “May the 4th be with you” wish.

Timothy Johnson, Senior Vice President of Marketing, Products & Partnership at INTI, explained that while the video aims to comfort those entering the workforce again, it also urges other members of the public to still practice caution during the conditional MCO.

“While many businesses are allowed to operate under this ease, we are still in the midst of a pandemic. We hope that this light-hearted video serves as a reminder for everyone to still be mindful of best practices and to stay at home as much as we can to continue flattening the virus’s curve,” shared Timothy.

When asked about the choice of theme for the video, Timothy explained that the 4th of May coincided with Star War’s popular “May the fourth be with you” pun.

“It was the perfect inspiration for our light-hearted, yet urgent message,” expressed Timothy.

The video, which was released on INTI’s official Facebook, Instagram and Twitter page on the 1st of May, 2020, has garnered positive reviews among social media users. On Facebook, the video’s post has gathered over 21,000 views, 851 likes and over 220 shares in the last 36 hours.

An Instagram user who goes by the username melissaanne1703 had positive comments and shared “not gonna lie, this is cool” in her Insta-story while a Facebook user by the name, Steven Quah, shared his praises for Datuk Dr Noor Hisham by stating, “Our very own YB Perang Bintang. Slay the COVID-19 for us, Datuk!” on INTI’s Facebook post.

Siow Mee Lim, a notable Star Wars fan also took the liberty to share the video with Malaysia’s Official Star Wars Fan Club’s Facebook page.
