Trapper wins MEASAT’s CONNECTme NOW business after a multi-agency pitch

Satellite communication services premium supplier, MEASAT Global Berhad (“MEASAT”) has appointed Trapper to be its integrated marketing agency on record for their first consumer brand, CONNECTme NOW.

Trapper is selected to handle the integrated marketing communications that includes brand and creative services, digital, social, media solutions, and PR management.

The appointment follows a 5-way pitch held in February early this year.

CONNECTme NOW is Malaysia’s premier prepaid WiFi satellite broadband service, which connects all corners of the nation as part of MEASAT’s national commitment to support end-to-end digital growth.

Positioned as a community enabler, the brand leverages its superior satellite technology to serve places where extreme geographical landscape challenges the roll-out of terrestrial communication infrastructure.

CONNECTme NOW makes connectivity accessible and affordable in areas without 3G/4G mobile or fibre coverage as satellite-based broadband services are ideal, practical and immediate solution in providing connectivity to communities in rural areas.

Research has shown that increasing broadband penetration by 0.1% can indirectly increase Gross Domestic Product by 1.4% in developed countries, and 0.5% in developing countries.

By closing the gap on last-mile connectivity, MEASAT can enable even more participation in the internet-based economy especially non-urban industries. No one will be left behind.

CEO of Trapper Interactive, Kenneth Wong noted, “Consumer journeys have continuously evolved and require brands to become more interesting and engaging. With a brand like CONNECTme NOW, we hope to continuously drive meaningful and accountable experiences that connect audiences in new ways.”

CONNECTme NOW offers 100% connectivity coverage up to 30Mbps with no contract or fixed monthly charges as subscribers only pay for what they use with a Prepaid Access Code (PAC) voucher.

Most importantly, rapid deployment is possible. Internet communication for rural communities can be enabled within 24 hours following the arrival of the installer in the remote location.

This service is not only important to people living outside of existing 3G/4G mobile and fibre coverage, but also highly valuable to SME businesses and industries in rural locations looking to upgrade productivity.

“All credit to the team and partners who did an amazing job in ensuring we give our all support to MEASAT. Targeting hard-to-reach areas, especially in important markets like East Malaysia can be challenging but we believe that we brought the right insights, solutions, and partners to the table”, said Sue-Anne Lim, CEO of Trapper.

“Our ambition for the brand was to ‘leave no place unconnected’. We showcased the most effective way to spark change and the most efficient way to keep an always-on presence amongst these unconnected communities to encourage adoption. We are extremely grateful for this trust and we look forward to grow with CONNECTme NOW”, added Sue-Anne.

CONNECTme NOW recently surpassed 2,000 sites, connecting over 200,000 people across these hard-to-reach sites, which proves the brand to be the preferred connectivity partner of various businesses, NGOs, and government entities.

On the agency’s state of business in the backdrop of MCO 3.0 lockdown, Sue-Anne commented, “There was definitely a huge shrinkage in industry adspends in Q3, but we’ve seen a rebound of 25% in our first fiscal quarter compared to the same period last year, with 40% share-of-spends in non-linear media.”

Sue-Anne further added, “Ad spends are directly correlated to the lockdown, therefore with the economy reopening in phases, we are confident to rebound as we end the year. We are blessed with a few new business wins this year, which definitely helped to balance our revenue.”

Trapper Group is currently expanding both its integrated media and digital-specific capabilities and welcome talents who have the same hunger for growth.
