U Mobile has promoted Navin Manian to CMO, succeeding Jasmine Lee who took on the role of chief digital officer late last year. He was most recently marketing director and joined the company last November from Maxis after eight years.
He last held the role of head of Hotlink at Maxis and first joined as GM, strategy and transformation in 2013. He also worked at Digi for close to six years, last helming the role of head of prepaid.
A few months after Navin joined, the telco brought on board Bernard Lee as head of brand and marketing services in March, reporting to Navin himself. Lee’s role is a consolidated one that covers brand, marketing communications, media, digital and social, brand engagement and consumer research across all consumer, B2B and product portfolios.
That same month, U Mobile also named Michael Tung as its head of consumer business also reporting to Navin. Tung currently oversees the end-to-end management of consumer business across the following business streams including prepaid, postpaid, broadband, IDD and roaming, device and retail branches.
This year promises to be an exciting year as the country moves into an endemic phase. The roll-out of 5G, for example, will bring plenty of possibilities for the telco industry to leverage on.

After 20 years of evolving technology, shifting market trends, and adapting to changing consumer behaviour, the media landscape has nearly reached saturation.
We’ve optimised to the fullest, providing advertisers with abundant choices across technology, platforms, data-driven marketing, CTV, OTT, DOOH, influencer marketing, retail, etc.
Media specialists have diversified, but with more options comes the challenge of maintaining income growth. The industry is expanding, but revenue isn’t keeping pace.
Now, we’re at a TURNING POINT: time to explore and harness new sustainable revenue streams. While GroupM forecasts a 7.8% global ad revenue growth in 2024, challenges like antitrust regulation, AI and copyright issues, and platform bans persist.
Collaboration is key: partnerships that thrive on synergy, shared values, and aligned goals are becoming increasingly essential.
Hence, the Malaysian Media Conference, in its 20th year, has assembled the partners and players under one roof on October 25 for a day of learning, sharing, and exploring.
