LaLiga, the Spanish football league, returns to Malaysia to charm and attract Malaysians on the iconic culture, history, and tradition of Spanish football. On 7 April 2021, LaLiga hosted a media event at Marta’s Kitchen, Hartamas to present its most exciting LaLiga derbies and prepare the Malaysians for the most watched game in the world, Barcelona vs Real Madrid.
The aim of the event was to raise awareness for each of the Derbies being played in LaLiga this season which are the Valencia Derby, the Basque Country Derby, the Madrid Derby and the Seville Derby. LaLiga shared in detail the proud history of the competition and the world-class teams and the talents within them.
“Bringing LaLiga closer to our fans and the media in Malaysia is our priority and at LaLiga we’re exporting the league and the whole country with the culture and the tradition all over the world,” said LaLiga’s representative in Malaysia, Giorgio Pompili Rossi, during the media event. “Malaysia has many diversities where both football and cuisine are relevant to the nation and through this event, we hope we are able to provide our guest with one of a kind experience”.
Adding on to the excitement, the event included special LaLiga appearances by Oliver Buff, former Real Zaragoza player who currently plays at Selangor FC and Jose Miguel Cornivos Lafuente, the ambassador of Spain who explained their lovefor Spanish football, culture, and gastronomy.
Guests got a chance to witness performances by Dr Sergio Camacho, the Director of Performing Arts of the University of Nottingham Malaysia, with his ensemble “Chino~Latino”, a Spanish mix Malaysian fusion band that blends traditional Spanish rhythms with Malaysian Chinese instruments. On top of that, Malaysian-based Spanish Chef, Chef Marta cooked one of her special Spanish delicacy, the “Valencian Paella”, live at the event.
According to a statement by LaLiga, the leadgue is much more than just Real Madrid, Barcelona and the El Clasico and is also about passion, culture and heritage. LaLiga continues to build its brand’s presence in Malaysia through events such as this. Malaysians are becoming more familiar with LaLiga, its various big games and most of all its Derbies, which are highly captivating. LaLiga inspires new fans of their beautiful games, educating them on Spanish football and the excitement around it.
“We’re working closely with LaLiga and the Spanish embassy to bring Spanish football closer to Malaysians through various platforms,” said CEO of Living Minds, Roshan Bose. “Besides that, our key focus moving forward is the development of women’s football here in Malaysia and we look forward to working with brands in this exciting initiative”
