It is that time of the year again when friends and family members come together to celebrate the auspicious Lunar New Year and commemorate its unique traditions such as spring cleaning, decorating homes, purchasing red or traditional attire, and preparing ang pows for children and the elderly.
To join in on this spirit of traditions and their significance, INTI International University & Colleges’ (INTI) latest Chinese New Year (CNY) video highlights the festival’s most celebrated and heartwarming tradition of all – family reunion dinners.
A few seconds into the video, the comedic yet sentimental content presents Ah Weng, a fictional student studying culinary arts at INTI, who shares about the unique experiences that come with reunion dinners. Before showing off his culinary flair to the audience, he expresses that there is often an unforgettable dish widely spoken about amongst family members and that reunions are often made more memorable through family time.
“The eve of Chinese New Year is widely observed by many families who come together from different parts of the country or the world to celebrate one of Malaysia’s most celebrated occasions. This touching tradition typically involves three to four generations of family members coming together and bears great significance in promoting family unity and embracing the New Year as one,” shared Timothy Johnson, Senior Vice
President of Marketing, Products & Partnerships at INTI.
“This CNY, we decided to take a more inclusive and unique approach by highlighting reunion dinners for smaller families, including families who may not have the opportunity to dine with their extended family members, but who still cherish traditions and the time they get to spend with one another,” added Timothy.
He continued by stating that the execution of this messaging would not have been made possible without the collaborative efforts of Spectrum Films, a local video production house.
The video was released on 22nd January 2020 and has since garnered 30,000 views on INTI’s official Facebook page.
