3 batches of non-latex Real Feel condoms from Durex to be recalled
Durex, owned by Reckitt Benckiser, has recalled some batches of its non-latex Durex condoms in around 25 countries including Australia, France, Ireland, Spain, UK and Malaysia.
According to Durex’s Malaysia website, the issue is:
“Not meeting ISO standards on AGEING: Our internal testing has shown that a limited number of non-latex Real Feel condoms may not meet the international ISO standard throughout their shelf-life. There is no immediate safety concern for consumers and only a limited number of batches is affected. In Malaysia, we are recalling non-latex Real Feel condoms with the batch number 1000433144, 1000438055, 1000422259”
However, Durex is not the first company to suffer from high profile product recalls. There is no doubt that such episodes can cause lasting damage to a brand’s reputation but the fact is recalls happen. Recently, the Malaysian health ministry has ordered the recall of several brands of sardine products after roundworms were found. Roundworms were found in canned sardine brands Cinta, Sea Fresh and HS Brand, as well as mackerel fish in tomato sauce from the King Cup, Star Cup and TC Boy brands.
Large companies such as Honda also experienced recall situations following a crash involving a 2004 Honda City on May 27, 2018, in Kuala Lumpur. Honda Malaysia has enforced its notification activities on Takata front airbag inflator recalls, utilising a variety of mediums to reach out to customers. This includes official press releases, advertisements, inclusion in roadshows, personal calls (71,700 made) and SMS (3.66 million sent), as well as direct mailing (3.2 million letters).
