Viu’s Unprecedented Growth in Dominating Streaming Landscape Continues with Viu Lokal Lah!

Viu Malaysia, PCCW’s leading pan-regional OTT video streaming service celebrates Malaysia’s national day with Viu Lokal Lah!. The campaign is a testament to Viu Malaysia’s commitment to showcasing the best of Malaysian content and has captured the attention of audiences across the country. The commitment is also reflected in the overwhelming response from viewers and in Viu Malaysia’s exceptional performance in the Southeast Asian region.

In the first half of 2023, Viu has gained attention among the key players in the industry, increasing its customer base in Southeast Asia. The OTT platform experienced significant growth in customers, especially in Indonesia and the Philippines as it acquired nearly 500,000 new customers, resulting in a total of 8.6 million customers. This accomplishment is linked to Viu’s ongoing commitment to delivering appealing content experiences. Central to Viu’s subscriber traction is its remarkable lineup of exclusive Korean dramas, celebrity marketing and a focus on localisation efforts, including expert local dubbing.

Southeast Asian content, fueled by Viu’s captivating originals and impactful licensing agreements, captured a remarkable 13% of premium video-on-demand (VOD) viewership during the first half of 2023. Viu Malaysia, along with other key platforms played a substantial role in achieving this milestone and its strategic strength was further highlighted by Viu Originals such as Hilang (2022) and Nenek Bongkok Tiga (2023) securing positions within the top 5 most viewed local content nationwide.

Leading the charge on the home front, Viu Malaysia took the lead in subscriber growth within the country during the first half 2023. With a subscriber base approaching 1.3 million, Viu Malaysia’s exclusive Korean dramas, along with an array of Viu Original productions were complemented by strategic distribution partnerships with major players like Astro, TM, Digi, Maxis, Celcom, and U-mobile. Notably, the local original series, Nenek Bongkok Tiga (2023) emerged as the premiere local title of the first half of 2023, resonating deeply with audiences.

Viu Lokal Lah! has truly been a celebration of the richness and diversity of Malaysian content, affirming Viu Malaysia’s role as a platform that celebrates local creativity and talent. As the campaign continues to thrive and Viu Malaysia remains dedicated to delivering exceptional entertainment experiences, viewers can anticipate an even brighter future for local content on the Viu platform.

Viu Lokal Lah! live showcase will be held at Lalaport, BBCC on 31 August 2023. Presented by Vivo Y78 5G, the event will feature performances from local celebrities including Bunkface, Saixse, Kidd Santhe, Radhi OAG & Budak Scene All-Stars, MK K-Clique, Aisha Retno dan Fimie Don. In addition to these musical performances, the event will also showcase appearances by Viu Original cast members such as Hun Haqeem, Daiyan Trisha, Mierul Aiman, Tony Eusoff, Siti Khadijah Halim, Sophia Albarakbah, Ikmal Amry, and more. Visitors will also have the opportunity to visit stalls from local vendors, Hausboom and Empire Kuku Besi and stand the chance to win various exclusive prizes and a meet & greet session with the cast
