Sales and service tax needs a review in the 2019 budget

Review of Sales and Service Tax hoped for in the 2019 budget

Media Prima Television Network’s chief executive officer, Johan Ishak

It is hoped that the government will review the Sales and Service (SST) tax for the media industry in the 2019 budget.

Media Prima Television Network’s chief executive officer, Johan Ishak, said the media industry often had to pay high taxes and this affected profits.

“It is therefore hoped that the government can improve the implementation of SST so that there will not be any double taxation in the media industry.”

Implementation of the SST can be done comprehensively across all industries, but it needs to review certain industries to form sub-systems that are more appropriate to the business model.

“The implementation of SST needs to be improved so that it does not affect the media industry dramatically,” said Johan when met by reporters at the launch of Ringgit Plus and Ringgit Sense.

Johan added that for the budget this time, hopefully the government will focus more on development expenditure rather than operating expenses.

“Most of the previous budget was given to operating expenses over development expenditure.

“Maybe it’s time to intensify development expenditure to allow the country to develop faster,” he said.

Early October, MARKETING reported on the implementation of Sales & Service Tax (SST) which connotes that the cost of business is soon set to rise and how will it affect the clients.
