The fourth day of the Champions Tour for the Malaysian CMO Awards 2021 was hosted by media giants GroupM Malaysia at their office premises in Petaling Jaya.
Winners who received their awards were Tammy Toh (Astro), Chow Phee Chat (Nestlé Products Sdn Bhd), Eve Fong (Nestlé Nespresso), and Zalman Zainal (Hong Leong Bank). Eve Fong, recipient of the Gold award for ‘Marketing Trailblazer – Digital’ and Zalman Zainal, winner of the Gold award for ‘Marketing Trailblazer – Financial Services’, were unable to attend the ceremony due to extenuating circumstances.
In his welcome speech, CEO of GroupM Malaysia Chanchal Chakrabarty said, “It is our privilege and pleasure to host some of Malaysia’s leading CMOs who have been true trailblazers of their industry, taking our marketing communications industry to greater heights with their strategic and innovative thinking and team work with their agency partners.”
Sheila Shanmugam, CEO of GroupM’s Mindshare Group Malaysia, said in her welcome remarks, “When we were approached to host this event for the Champions Tour, we couldn’t have felt more honoured because not only these are clients that we work with, but specifically because of how talented each of them are in their respective fields. Being in the lead of decision making for the work that we do as agencies, these marketers always keep pushing us to explore further and do better.”
Chow Phee Chat, the Executive Director of Marketing, Communications & Innovation at Nestlé (Malaysia & Singapore), said during his acceptance speech, “Thank you esteemed judges, organising committee and the host for this recognition. The CMO award is not an individual affirmation but am receiving it on behalf of a group of passionate and committed colleagues in Nestle, our trusted partners in agencies as well as media partners.”
“The successful campaigns we roll out in Nestle are the combined efforts of everyone involved and a demonstration of good team work. I would like to take this opportunity to express my appreciation to each and everyone of the team involved”, added Chow.
Tammy Toh, the Director of Group Marketing & Communications at Astro, gracefully accepted her awards saying, “Behind every award stands a team of dedicated marketeers, supported by outstanding creative and media teams. I am extremely proud of Team Astro and our respective agencies who challenge and encourage each other in our journey to create great entertainment for Malaysians.”

After 20 years of evolving technology, shifting market trends, and adapting to changing consumer behaviour, the media landscape has nearly reached saturation.
We’ve optimised to the fullest, providing advertisers with abundant choices across technology, platforms, data-driven marketing, CTV, OTT, DOOH, influencer marketing, retail, etc.
Media specialists have diversified, but with more options comes the challenge of maintaining income growth. The industry is expanding, but revenue isn’t keeping pace.
Now, we’re at a TURNING POINT: time to explore and harness new sustainable revenue streams. While GroupM forecasts a 7.8% global ad revenue growth in 2024, challenges like antitrust regulation, AI and copyright issues, and platform bans persist.
Collaboration is key: partnerships that thrive on synergy, shared values, and aligned goals are becoming increasingly essential.
Hence, the Malaysian Media Conference, in its 20th year, has assembled the partners and players under one roof on October 25 for a day of learning, sharing, and exploring.
