Toyota takes a drive this Hari Raya
Japanese car manufacturer Toyota is encouraging Malaysian families to take a ‘jalan-jalan’ – a drive without a destination this Hari Raya
The campaign is called ‘Jalan Cerita’, or storyline and was created by The Clan.
The commercial begins with the main protagonist Afiq reminiscing about how his father would always insist on going for a drive. At one point Afiq becomes irritated with his father and exclaims that he’s bored with just driving around the neighbourhood and never going anywhere. Years later, when Afiq is married with a child. One day, after he reaches home late from work, his own daughter asks him to take her on a ‘jalan-jalan’ to which he says he’s tired.
His wife, Sarah, then explains that their daughter doesn’t really want to just go for a ride but instead want to spend time with him. This triggers his memory of his dad and make him realise that the time he spent with his father is the most precious thing.
The film ends with the line which explains the premise: ‘It doesn’t matter where your life journey takes you, but who you’re with’.
Before releasing the film, the brand began sharing teasers on Instagram Stories, plus tips in preparation for Raya, with the goal being to lead consumers to the campaign microsite and a test-drive form.

After 20 years of evolving technology, shifting market trends, and adapting to changing consumer behaviour, the media landscape has nearly reached saturation.
We’ve optimised to the fullest, providing advertisers with abundant choices across technology, platforms, data-driven marketing, CTV, OTT, DOOH, influencer marketing, retail, etc.
Media specialists have diversified, but with more options comes the challenge of maintaining income growth. The industry is expanding, but revenue isn’t keeping pace.
Now, we’re at a TURNING POINT: time to explore and harness new sustainable revenue streams. While GroupM forecasts a 7.8% global ad revenue growth in 2024, challenges like antitrust regulation, AI and copyright issues, and platform bans persist.
Collaboration is key: partnerships that thrive on synergy, shared values, and aligned goals are becoming increasingly essential.
Hence, the Malaysian Media Conference, in its 20th year, has assembled the partners and players under one roof on October 25 for a day of learning, sharing, and exploring.
