MCA banner draws public anger on social media

The latest picture circulating online which has drawn the ire of the public is by the Malaysian Chinese Association (MCA) for Taiping. In the association’s latest banner congratulating His Majesty Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Muhammad V, who was installed yesterday as the country’s 15th Yang di-Pertuan Agong, was wrongly worded indicating the cancellation of His Majesty’s appointment.

In the banner’s message, ‘pertabalan’ (installation) was misspelt as ‘perbatalan’ (cancellation), highlighting the mistake netizens shared and expressed their anger over the wrongly worded message on social media.

Taiping MCA division Chief Ang Sui Eng later apologised for the mistake and was quoted in The Star saying, “We failed to make a revision of our banner which was hung in front of our office. The banner has been removed immediately this morning when we were informed of the error. A correction has been made and a new banner has been put up.”

She added they would be more careful in the future and such a mistake would not be repeated.
