Media Prima Berhad has announced the retirement of The New Straits Times (Malaysia) Berhad‘s CEO, Datuk Seri Abdul Jalil Hamid effective 31 March 2019.
Encik Mustapha Kamil Mohd Janor, Executive Director of News and Editorial Operations of Media Prima, will assume additional duties as the interim CEO starting April 1.
Datuk Seri Abdul Jalil had informed the Board and Management of Media Prima of his intention to seek retirement. He joined NSTP as Group Managing Editor in October
Media Prima also announced the appointment of Dato’ Yushaimi Maulud Yahaya as NSTP’s Chief Operating Officer, effective 1 April 2019. Datuk Yushaimi, who is currently NSTP’s Editor-in-Chief, has more than 26 years of experience in the news industry having served in various editorial roles within NSTP and the Malay Mail.
Datuk Kamal Khalid, Group Managing Director Media Prima, shared, “We have full confidence that Encik Mustapha Kamil and Dato’ Yushaimi will continue to provide strong leadership to NSTP and build on the business transformation initiatives contributed by Datuk Seri Abdul Jalil. Both Encik Mustapha Kamil and Dato’ Yushaimi have been with the Group for many years.”
Since the launch of Media Prima’s transformation programme Odyssey in 2016, the Group ventured into more digital and consumer-based businesses which include its successful home shopping network CJ WOW SHOP, education portal FullAMark and women’s lifestyle portal Hijab & Heels.
Media Prima currently ranks third in Malaysia (behind Google and Facebook) in digital reach after the 2017 acquisition of Rev Asia Holdings, one of Southeast Asia’s leading digital media groups.
