Suria, a subsidiary of Star Media Radio Group has launched a slew of new content solutions this year through its radio, digital platforms and road tours. This is in line with the Malay radio station’s 10th year anniversary.
“Thankfully, this year is the year where Suria gets to expand its platform in spreading information and providing entertainment to the public. We are no longer restricted to merely audio, in fact, we bring forward everything visually and physically through our digital videos as well as our Suria road tours,” said Subarma Mohtaruddin, Suria FM General Manager Programming.
Sharpening its digital edge
Digital plays an important role for the brand. Recently, Suria began producing short online videos based on some of its on-air segments such as #ApaItuCinta, Parodi Zulin and Suria Jam which can be viewed on www.suria.my.
The move paid off as the brand’s digital platform garnered over one million viewers, and counting, to date. This has spurred the station to create more original content in various genres ranging from travelogues, serial dramas, horror-documentaries and entertainment programs.
Suria will also be producing a 10-minute long entertainment news programme featuring the latest news and exclusive inside scoops, known as Sensasi Suria.
“In line with the ‘Segalanya Hiburan’ (Everything Entertainment) theme, our objective is to become a creative digital channel by producing original, high-quality content. This is because we believe that it will attract more people to the Suria brand,” Shahida Azad, better known as Shy, Suria’s Senior Manager, Content and Digital shared.
The brand is also upgrading its digital platform to make it more interactive with specially-created emoticons as well as live chat functionality.
Brand new content
Suria will also be featuring a refreshed on-air line-up that includes Suria Pagi (Halim Othman, Zulin Aziz and Fizi Ali), Menu Suria (Brian Chen), Waroong Suria (Bob Ringgo), Suria Petang (Tyzo and Suraya) and Suria Cinta (DJ Lin).
In the pipeline for the station’s new content is a series called, #BFF that revolves around the friendship between two celebrities and the challenges they face while on a road trip. Suria will also be releasing a serial drama based on the real-life stories from the callers to its popular Suria Cinta segment featuring popular local artists in the lead roles. The station will also be introducing a new entertainment programme in the form of a singing competition called Mic Kecoh that requires participants to sing to an audience.
Taking its content offline
The Siri Jelajah Suria 10 Tahun road tour will kick off in Johor this April followed by Terengganu, Penang, Ipoh and culminating in Shah Alam, Selangor. This road tour is Suria’s gift to its listeners, presenting them with the chance to get up close with the Suria announcers as well as popular artists including Akim & The Majistret, Siti Nordiana, Hazama, Tomok, Black, Amy Search, Dato Hattan, Kaka Azraff, Zarul Husin, Sufian Suhaimi, Khai Bahar and many others.

After 20 years of evolving technology, shifting market trends, and adapting to changing consumer behaviour, the media landscape has nearly reached saturation.
We’ve optimised to the fullest, providing advertisers with abundant choices across technology, platforms, data-driven marketing, CTV, OTT, DOOH, influencer marketing, retail, etc.
Media specialists have diversified, but with more options comes the challenge of maintaining income growth. The industry is expanding, but revenue isn’t keeping pace.
Now, we’re at a TURNING POINT: time to explore and harness new sustainable revenue streams. While GroupM forecasts a 7.8% global ad revenue growth in 2024, challenges like antitrust regulation, AI and copyright issues, and platform bans persist.
Collaboration is key: partnerships that thrive on synergy, shared values, and aligned goals are becoming increasingly essential.
Hence, the Malaysian Media Conference, in its 20th year, has assembled the partners and players under one roof on October 25 for a day of learning, sharing, and exploring.
