Sharp touches hearts with Hari Raya mother daughter film

Sharp launched a 5-minute video titled “Raya Sure Suka” that featured a live surprise for Zahirah Macwilson, a Malaysian actress and Sharp’s brand ambassador. Within 9 hours, the video had organically hit over 100 thousand likes on social media.

The Malaysian actress had previously taken to Instagram to tell fans how much she missed her mum who is based in Perth, Australia, as work had kept them apart for over 7 months.

Agency SPIN Communications turned that nugget of information into a surprise reunion between mother and daughter that was shot live on set.

SPIN worked together with Sharp, film house Think Tank and Zahirah’s people, teaming up with Zahirah’s mum to bring the surprise to life. The unsuspecting actress was brought in to film what she thought would be a standard 30-second commercial. Instead, she walked in to a truly emotional surprise.

The genuine display of love and affection between Zahirah and her mother was fully captured on video and it resonated deeply with the audience. Fans took to the comments to express how touched they were, and many shared how they would be calling their own mothers.

After years of airing commercials that focused on products and promotions, this marks a new milestone for Sharp’s communications in Malaysia.

As Sharp’s Senior Brand Marketing Manager, Zoe Chow puts it, “I wanted something different for Sharp this year and we were wonderfully surprised with the results.”

Though Raya has barely begun, the new commercial has already found a place in the hearts of many new fans. Watch the full surprise now on Sharp Malaysia’s Facebook, Instagram or YouTube page.
