INTI International University & Colleges released its latest Hari Raya video titled Dodol. Named after one of Malaysia’s most loved local deserts to netizens, the three-minute video features Danish Harraz, 10-year-old chef who also owns an online cooking business
“Malaysians love our food, especially during festive celebrations. It often becomes our reason to return to our hometown and get together with our family. This Hari Raya, we wanted to highlight the importance of food and family through Danish, who himself is a self-taught chef.” said Timothy Johnson, Senior Vice President of Marketing, Products & Partnerships at INTI International University & Colleges.
The three-minute video showcases the interaction between Rizal (played by Danish Harraz) and his Opah (grandmother). Being a city boy, Rizal’s curiosity on why certain types of food such as the Rendang and Lemang are only made during Hari Raya is asked through a series of questions to his grandmother. Not wanting to disappoint her curious grandson, Opah comes up with some interesting reasons and teaches Rizal about the importance of unity and the need to stay together as Malaysians.
For example, she compares Rendang and its specialty to the unity we enjoy as a family during the festive season. Lemang, which takes up to four hours to cook teaches us patience while Dodol, according to her resembles the togetherness of Malaysians – as it uses different ingredients to produce the sweet dessert.
Having previously spoken at TEDxINTIKL, an independently organized TED Talk at INTI, Danish did not think twice about taking up the opportunity to be part of the video. With over 70,000 followers on social media, Danish is a baker and chef – having learned the skill via YouTube from the tender age of six.
He shared, “INTI is very close to my heart because they were one of the first to give me a stage to talk about my passion – cooking. Ever since that, they have always been encouraging me and when the opportunity to be in the video came up, I happily accepted.”
Directed by its alumni Jivetharman and Caleb Lim (Salad Show Productions), the video, released on the evening of June 16th, has since gained over 2,800 views and 31 shares via its Facebook page.
