Hari Raya 2018 advertisements
Hari Raya commercials have always had a special place in our hearts.
The short films are always touching, they carry important messages of love, gratitude, kindness, respect and understanding. Most of all, they show us to appreciate life as well as our family and loved ones. Of course, not to forget a little chuckle for the funny bone.
1.Petronas – Misi Riuh Raya!
Keeping to the theme of the importance of family, the story tells the tale of the entire family who goes leaps and bound to surprise their parents for Raya.
2. Lazada – Buah Hati Raya
Lazada’s tear-jerker with a touch of comical twist advertisement tells the tale of a loving husband Pak Lan who goes out of his way to get his wife a chair to ease her back pains. He comes home only to find out the wife has built a clothing empire using the help of Lazada!
3. Yeo’s – Ramadan Terbaik Syawal (Syawal’s Best Ramadan)
Yeo’s Ramadan advertisement takes a nostalgic turn with Syawal’s Ramadan adventure. He lands in trouble with his mother due his cheekiness of secretly trying to drink during the fasting period. As an attempt to cheer him up, Syawal’s dad takes him back to the time when he was a little boy who too enjoyed Yeo’s too much during the fasting period.
4. Watsons – #MisiIkhlasAidilfitri
Watsons kicked off its 2018 Ramadan and Aidilfitri campaign by calling upon Malaysians to propagate a do-good culture by sharing simple acts of kindness. In collaboration with Naga DDB Tribal, the #MisiIkhlasAidilfitri campaign aims to spread positivity and shine a light on the kind and sincere acts performed by Malaysians every day.
First of its kind effort by Watsons Malaysia and Naga DDB Tribal, the campaign is based on sincerity as the key spirit of this holy month. Sparked by Watsons Malaysia’s tagline “Look Good Feel Great”, #MisiIkhlasAidilfitri campaign aims to communicate to Malaysians that feeling great comes from within, and that those who feel great are those who do good to others with pure and honest intention.
5. Digi – #Nawaitu
For the first time in years, Raya coincides with World Cup, and with this in mind, the team at NagaDDB Tribal and Digi went in search of an inspirational content that bridged both occasions. In the search, the team came across a, heartfelt, true story of our ex national footballer, Nidzam Jamil.
This is a story of a young man, now a successful coach for Felda FC. Faced with the loss of his elder brother, another ex-national player, the injury that cost him his career, Nidzam rose back on his feet with a helpful reminder from his brother that all good things begin with a good intention. Given a second chance in life, Nidzam undertook a team of troubled youths and trained them to be better footballers. Despite resistance from the team, Nidzam’s resilience and good intention led him to success with the team.
6. Air Asia – Ikhlas
AirAsia’s Ramadan video dives into the lives of individual Allstars (AirAsia employees) and relishes in the true spirit of Ramadan. The video focuses on and celebrates the determination, integrity, perseverance and sense of responsibility that’s heightened for all Muslims throughout the Holy Month.
7. CIMB – Tanam Cempedak Tumbuh Nangka
CIMB’s Aidilfitri tale is about three close multiracial neighbours, Auntie Amu, Auntie Norli and Auntie Janet who all live around a cempedak tree. One day, the three neighbours discover that the cempedak tree is bearing fruit and each of them has plans for it. This eventually led into an argument since there was only one fruit. Only to discover it goes missing!
8. Coca-Cola – Sunset
The video features a young Muslim woman who has to endure the challenges and discomfort of fasting in the late afternoon. She is also the victim of harsh stares and mockery from passersby.
When she plans to break fast with the traditional meal of three dates, she is offered a glass of Coke from a supportive passerby. The passerby patiently waits for the sun to set before indulging in the drink with the female protagonist. The video ends with the message “What unites us is bigger than what divides us.”
9. SP Setia – Setia disamping mu
SP Setia’s new Raya campaign embodies the message “Setia di samping mu” (Faithfully, by your side), in a bid to resonate with Malaysians and ensure they are able to embrace the message regardless of race. Done in collaboration with Publicis Malaysia, Reservoir Productions and Rec Room, SP Setia’s video seeks to promote a deeper understanding of each other’s culture and beliefs. As such, it brought to life the story of a samping, which is mainly seen as a fashion statement.
10. TNB -Rumah Epik Fantastik
The story is titled, “Rumah Epik Fantastik” (Epic Fantastic House) focuses on common and relatable dilemmas faced by many Malaysians, especially during the festive season. During festive seasons, we always have large number of people roughing it out under one roof. Sometimes it may be uncomfortable but everything turned out joyful in the end as a result of tolerance and togetherness.
