Burger King Helsinki sets local McDonald’s as pick-up points for free delivery

A little bit of friendly competition among businesses always keeps things interesting and Burger King’s latest campaign of turning local McDonald’s outlets into their delivery hot spots is a creative and cheeky one.

The capital of Finland, Helsinki is home to multiple McDonald’s outlets but has only few Burger King outlets. Through strategic outdoor advertising at carefully selected areas close to the city’s McDonald’s, Burger King is offering free delivery when customers pick these spots as their pick-up location when placing a delivery order.

“Nearly every district in Helsinki has a McDonald’s restaurant and sadly Burger King is not quite as common,” said Brand Manager of Burger King, Kaisa Kasila. “We feel for the whopper-less city dwellers of these regions and we know how it feels like to yearn for the taste of our juicy flame-grilled burgers.”

The campaign also uses social media to spread the word through micro influencers sharing their experiences on using the designated pick-up spots for free delivery.

The campaign which ran from 29 June 2020 to 1 July 2020, used Wolt, a local delivery and takeout app similar to GrabFood.
