This October, Astro will be introducing 3 new sports channels and fans of various world sports will be able to enjoy these channels at no extra cost.
They are Astro SuperSport 5, Astro Arena 2 and the brand-new SPOTV.
Subscribers of Astro Sports Pack will continue to enjoy top global sporting events such as UFC, Formula 1, Bundesliga, ATP, and WTA on Astro SuperSport 5; and MotoGP, Wimbledon and the US Open on SPOTV.
These new sports channels are a result of Disney’s announcement on the discontinuation of certain linear channels in the region after September, in order to obtain greater subscribership for their streaming services, coupled with the same for FOX Sports, FOX Sports 2 and FOX Sports 3. Discovery Science and Hello channels will also stop broadcasting after September 30th, 2021.
Astro Arena 2 will feature edgy and localized coverage of international sports and sports news updates for sports enthusiasts of Malaysia, which will also include live studio presentations for WWE, BWF and more in new formats that appeal to the younger segment. Astro Arena 2 is included in the Family Pack.
Live sports will be available on Astro SuperSport 5 (CH815), SPOTV (CH816) and Astro Arena 2 (CH802) from the 1st of October, 2021.
Astro also announced that they will continue to aggregate the best streaming services and at the same time refresh their linear channels in the Family, Movies, Variety and Learning packs. The new linear channels are to include HBO Family, HBO Hits, SHOWCASE MOVIES, BBC Lifestyle, BBC Earth, Paramount Network, Lifetime and PRIMEtime from September 15th, 2021.
On Demand connected customers can also expect two additional BBC offerings from mid-October – BBC First and BBC Brit.
