Smokers attempt to comply with the law by using measuring tapes to maintain a three-metre distance between them and any restaurant.

The no-smoking ruling at Malaysian eateries, which started on January 1, has inspired a variety of measuring tape memes on Twitter.

Malay Mail discovered numerous hilarious tweets and photos posted by smokers attempting to comply with the law by using measuring tapes to maintain a three-metre distance between them and an eatery.

The same article also stated that anyone caught smoking in prohibited areas can be fined up to RM10,000 or jailed up to two years under Regulation 11 of the Control of Tobacco Product Regulations 2004.

However, in order to enable the public to adjust to the ban, the Health Ministry announced that it will not enforce the law until July 1, and only written warnings will be issued to the offenders till then.
