PopDigital acquires Buzzkini.com and Salaam.tv

PopDigital takes on Malay language lifestyle sites
PopDigital, the holding company behind The Cooler Lumpur Festival has announced the acquisition of two Malay language sites, Buzzkini.com and Salaam.tv. Both titles were previously managed by independent operators.
PopDigital produces original creative content in all forms.

It provides a full media and marketing service from conceptualising creative ideas and campaigns to 360-degree execution.

Social news channel Buzzkini has a following of close to 1 million on Facebook, and within two months of the launch of the publication,  delivered  over  1 million page views. Salaam which caters to the modest lifestyle consumer has a following of over 900,000.

“We have been looking to grow our digital media offerings, and after taking a longer-term view, we decided to venture into the Malay-‐language  market.

“Less than 10% of the Malaysian population consume content in English.  Companies that continue to cater only to the urban,  English-‐speaking market will likely stagnate in the near future as the economy and population shifts further,” says Hardesh Singh (pic), founder of PopDigital.

“In addition, statistics show that the T20  (top  20%)  and  M40  (middle  40%)  income groups recorded the highest growth, with Malay households leading in both categories.

“Combined with an increase in the average household expenditure and the Malay segment’s huge appetite for content, this will allow us to develop e-services in the near future as we capture and grow our audience.  Our next goal is to complement media with lifestyle options,” he added.

A new team is currently being designed to develop both titles.

MARKETING Magazine is not responsible for the content of external sites.

After 20 years of evolving technology, shifting market trends, and adapting to changing consumer behaviour, the media landscape has nearly reached saturation.

We’ve optimised to the fullest, providing advertisers with abundant choices across technology, platforms, data-driven marketing, CTV, OTTDOOHinfluencer marketing, retail, etc.

Media specialists have diversified, but with more options comes the challenge of maintaining income growth. The industry is expanding, but revenue isn’t keeping pace.

Now, we’re at a TURNING POINT: time to explore and harness new sustainable revenue streams. While GroupM forecasts a 7.8% global ad revenue growth in 2024, challenges like antitrust regulation, AI and copyright issues, and platform bans persist.

Collaboration is keypartnerships that thrive on synergy, shared values, and aligned goals are becoming increasingly essential.

Hence, the Malaysian Media Conference, in its 20th year, has assembled the partners and players under one roof on October 25 for a day of learning, sharing, and exploring.
