MARKETING Magazine is excited and proud to announce that Global Vice President of Marketing of Grab, Cheryl Goh, who is also one of the six shortlisted individuals for the Global Marketer of the Year award, will be a keynote speaker at the APPIES Malaysia Marketing Awards & Festival happening on 10 April 2020.
As one of the first employees of Grab Malaysia, Cheryl has been with the region’s decacorn, before it even became an app, let alone a Super App. When she joined Grab to head its marketing, she knew that brand exposure wasn’t going to be an easy feat, especially with a startup budget.
Through unwavering persistence, she incorporated old-school techniques to market the brand such as going to colleges, conferences, concerts and any other location where she and her team knew there would be large groups of people looking for transportation back home – holding up a sign ‘Do you need a ride?’
Considering that now, Grab has become the most widely-used ride-hailing app in Malaysia and has grown to include multiple services on its platform, most notably GrabFood, the humble beginnings of the brand’s marketing is worth reflecting over.
Cheryl’s insights on successful marketing even with zero budget is the reason we’re excited to have her as one of our keynote speakers. She’s a unicorn in the marketing world, and although her initial brief was to primarily help the brand survive, she has made it thrive.
APPIES 2020 will take place at the Sime Darby Convention Center and you can officially start purchasing your tickets here.
Since APPIES this year has been condensed into a 1-day event, by purchasing your ticket to attend the conference will also include access to the APPIES Awards night where the best campaigns, judged by some of the best marketing individuals in the country, will be awarded for their achievements.
The tickets are priced at RM 1,800 + 6% SST each and is also HRDF claimable.
