Chris Greenough now Managing Partner

(marketingmagazine.com.my) – Launched a year ago, digital recruiting firm Potentio gearing up for the next phase of their growth, elevating Co-founder & Partner Chris Greenough as the firm’s first Managing Partner.

He was previously Head of Strategy for Asia at digital agency APD.

“Every business is going to be a digital business,” says Chris. “It’s not a question of if, but a question of when and how fast businesses can fully commit to internalising the digital innovation process and talent needed to transform the company.”

A recent study by General Electric shows that while Malaysian executives are optimistic about the future, they lack the talent to effectively capitalise on consumer research and data that can translate into actionable insights today.

As a result, 75% of companies in Malaysia are seeking a workforce that is both creative and able to solve problems presented by the new digital paradigm.

Creativity alone is not enough

While coveted skills, creative ideas are useless without the ability to execute.

The industry as a whole has been slow to evolve, lacking the required investment to improving digital literacy and integrate digital solutions into their service offering.

Rather than chasing the latest trend, agencies would be better served in having an opinion on what delivers value, and build around that.

“When we speak to talent, the most common reason they don’t want to work in an agency is that they want to work in an environment of iterative improvement.

“That is, they want to focus on one product or service and make that better and better over time – rather than the campaign culture that is common in many agencies,” he adds.

As a result, creative and technical talent are moving to startups, while brands are are bringing these skills in house.

By being industry agnostic and focused on the skills required to build a great digital team, Potentio has been able to grow by 182% between H2 2015, when they launched, and the first half of 2016.

They have client list ranging from creative agencies like Leo Burnett and M&C Saatchi; to boutique digital companies, like Company 27; and corporates like KFC and AIA.

To support their growth, Potentio has also hired two high performing digital talent consultants from one of the world’s largest recruiting agencies, who will be joining the company in July.

Using a calculated blend of innovation and education, the company’s goal is to shift away from the traditional recruiting business model to one powered entirely by technology before the end of 2017.

While the firm claims they are not a startup, they’re a business, that didn’t stop e27 from recognising them as one of the fastest growing startups of 2015. Startup or not, we expect to hear more great things from them before the end of 2016.
