Netflix for only RM 17 now?

With 137 million subscribers, Netflix is a giant in video streaming. But while it dominates in the US, it’s less commanding in Asia, where it competes with cheaper alternatives.

Netflix also faces a variety of competitors in Malaysia with sites like iflix, Viu and Tonton.

In hopes of baiting more Malaysian subscribers, Netflix has come up with a mobile-only plan.

The new “mobile” subscription tier is significantly cheaper. It will cost Malaysians RM17 a month, about half the cost of a “basic” subscription, which costs RM33.

Like the basic plan, a mobile subscription allows users to stream Netflix shows and movies from a device, but that device must be a phone or tablet.

And while the more expensive standard or premium plans allow users to stream in high definition or Ultra HD, the mobile subscription being tested in Malaysia only streams in Standard Definition.

Along with a cheaper option, Netflix has also recently announced a slate of new projects in the region and is currently developing more than 100 films and TV shows across Asia.

We’ve optimised to the fullest, providing advertisers with abundant choices across technology, platforms, data-driven marketing, CTV, OTTDOOHinfluencer marketing, retail, etc.

Now, we’re at a TURNING POINT: time to explore and harness new sustainable revenue streams. While GroupM forecasts a 7.8% global ad revenue growth in 2024, challenges like antitrust regulation, AI and copyright issues, and platform bans persist.

Collaboration is keypartnerships that thrive on synergy, shared values, and aligned goals are becoming increasingly essential.

Hence, the Malaysian Media Conference, in its 20th year, has assembled the partners and players under one roof on October 25 for a day of learning, sharing, and exploring.
