He was like a storm. A positive one. Full of creative energy.
He made a great impact in the advertising circle here in Malaysia in the late 80s’ and early 90s’.
Full of passion, he spotted talent, groomed and unleashed them.
I was one of the lucky few…
He won many local and international awards as the Executive Creative Director of AP:Compton, which is now, after many reincarnations, FCB/Kuala Lumpur.
In later years, he played a major role as a Creative Consultant helping to build the agency into a formidable player.
Mark touched many lives and groomed many creatives, who are now holding senior positions in many agencies.
Always striving and pushing for creative excellence, he was so particular right down to a full stop that appeared in an ad.
Afer leaving Malaysia, Mark started his own agency in Hong Kong, Amdur, Smith and Associates and then Windows Creative which he sold to DDB and finally ‘On Creative’.
In Australia, where he never retired, he taught film and advertising at TAFE and ran seminars for the Communications Council there.
Mark has written books and is an accomplished musician.
Despite his health condition he summed up strength to perform at his concert “Such is Life”.
Such was his passion.
Mark passed away at the age of 68.
May you rest in peace, Sir.
Contributed by Mark’s protégé, Lakshmi Mohan, who was Executive Creative Director of Draftfcb Malaysia for almost 23 years. These days, she is a Creative Consultant for Action Europe Copenhagen.
