Star Media Group, property developer S P Setia Berhad, and various prominent personalities joined forces to launch #StandTogether, a nationwide campaign calling for the first week of April to be designated as an annual Bullying Prevention Week.
The campaign was launched by Yang Amat Mulia Tengku Datin Paduka Setia Zatashah Binti Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah at Setia International Centre, where celebrities including actress Lisa Surihani, singer Dayang Nurfaizah, filmmaker Jinnyboy, Youtube sensation Jenn Chia, local band Paperplane Pursuit and Youtube content creator Arwind Kumar also pledged their support to the campaign.
Tengku Zatashah reminded everyone that the campaign is to promote simple values to all – kindness, empathy and unity:
“It is important for everyone to understand that this is not an ‘Anti-Bullying’ campaign. We are not ‘anti-bullies’, or here to vilify bullies.
Many of them are merely products of an environment we have created as a society.”
She also hopes this movement will be an annual affair where it will be part of our culture in Malaysia and communities are more invested in what goes on in the schools.
“It’s important to make a stand and show students facing aggression that they aren’t alone,” added Star Media Group Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Datuk Seri Wong Chun Wai,
“That’s why we’re pleased to be working with SP Setia Berhad to tackle the issue of school violence. Through this collaboration, we hope schools will soon be a safe space for all children.”
Chairman of S P Setia Foundation, Tan Sri Dato’ Seri Dr Wan Mohd Zahid said SP Setia was happy to collaborate with Star Media Group in a joint effort to create more awareness on the prevention of bullying.
“This is an extension of the Setia Caring School Programme which we kicked off in 2015 with the core idea of cultivating a ‘caring society’ but on a much bigger scale,” he shared.
The campaign, which will be run by Star’s award-winning R.AGE team, aims to mobilise volunteers (former students, parents, teachers, etc.) to independently organise bullying prevention events/activities in their schools every first week of April.
R.AGE will be producing a series of online videos featuring the celebrities and their personal experiences with bullying, and are currently working on a documentary series about school violence. #StandTogether Week will take place in schools nationwide from April 2 – 6, 2018.
