The landmark event of the year for the marketing industry in Malaysia, the Malaysian CMO Conference and Awards 2018 is set to take place on Nov 16 at the Sime Darby Convention Centre in Kuala Lumpur.
This year’s conference is expected to gather an estimated 300 senior marketing and media players from around the industry. With the theme “Goodbye Marketing, Hello Engagement”, this year’s conference is sure to turn heads as the very definition of “marketing” is called into question.
300 marketing professionals to attend Malaysian CMO Conference 2018Longtime marketing practitioner, Malaysian CMO Awards president and publisher of MARKETING magazine Harmandar Singh a.k.a. Ham (pic below) explained that marketing needs to be redefined from a digital context given the shift in consumer trends and behaviour.
“The word marketing is not dead, but it has to evolve in reflection of the larger context so as to drive more meaningful engagement with consumers,” he said.
Indeed, marketers have never faced a bigger dilemma today given the rise of technologies like Artificial Intelligence, Augmented Reality, Programmatic Advertising, Blockchain and Chatbots.
In an effort to bring marketers up to speed with the shifting marketing landscape in Malaysia, the Malaysian CMO Conference has gathered an illustrious panel of diverse speakers that come from the media, retail, airlines, telco, academia and more.
Among the notable speakers is Karangkraf Media Group chief executive officer and group managing director Hussamuddin Haji Yaacub who will shed some light on the Malay consumers’ psyche. Karangkraft carries over 13 publications including Sinar Harian and is the largest Malay content publisher in Malaysia.
Ham believes that Hussamuddin’s sharing will be invaluable as he believes that most marketers don’t know enough about what makes this customer segment tick.
Another key speaker at the conference is Inti International University associate professor Dr Lee Kar Ling who will be speaking on a topic plaguing most marketers – entering the mind of millennials and how to market to them.
In addition, Maxis’ head of branding and partnerships Tai Kam Leong will also be speaking. A bold marketer with 15 years of experience under his belt, Tai is known for never being afraid of failing and getting back up again. He will be sharing his experience in the realms of marketing, communications, branding partnership from working with Maxis.
Also not to be missed is returning speaker, cosmetics millionaire Hasmiza Othman, who is better known as Dr Vida.
At the end of the conference, the inaugural Malaysian CMO Awards aims to recognise the best marketers in the industry. In addition, the Minister of Communications and Multimedia Gobind Singh Deo is set to officiate at the awards.
