Rallying Millions to Cultivate Kindness and Promote Responsible Online Behaviour
In a digital world rife with keyboard warriors and heated online debates, TikTok has taken a bold step to inspire Malaysians to pause, reflect, and #ThinkTwice.
Launched in September, this groundbreaking digital literacy campaign has turned the tide against negativity, rallying millions to cultivate kindness and promote responsible online behaviour, reports Focus Malaysia.
Collaborating with the Content Forum, All Women’s Action Society (AWAM), and the Mental Illness Awareness and Support Association (MIASA), TikTok’s initiative goes beyond hashtags, offering users actionable tools and education to ensure their interactions contribute to a healthier online ecosystem.
From Hate Speech to Hopeful Spaces
The campaign tackled pressing issues like hate speech, cyberbullying, and misinformation head-on, with TikTok Malaysia sharing educational videos on identifying and reporting harmful content.
These efforts struck a chord with users, garnering over 26.2 million views.
Features like “Comment Care” were spotlighted, empowering users to filter out toxic remarks and maintain constructive conversations.
This digital-first approach has redefined how Malaysians perceive and practice online safety.
Creators Championing Kindness
TikTok tapped into the power of homegrown creators to amplify its message.
With content from favourites like @yimotapir, @lawyergandhi, and @ggatorart, along with a thought-provoking rap anthem by @mozi4real, the campaign reached 1.6 million views.
These creators didn’t just share; they engaged, fostering genuine conversations about positivity and responsibility.
Civil society organisations such as AWAM and MIASA also joined the movement, leveraging TikTok’s vibrant platform to extend their outreach.
Universities Take a Stand
TikTok’s efforts resonated beyond the app.
At Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) Shah Alam, over 500 students pledged to #ThinkTwice, committing to uphold the values of digital literacy and mutual respect.
This partnership with Content Forum underscores how campaigns like these can inspire real-world action, cultivating a generation of conscious digital citizens.
An Online Movement with Offline Impact
The campaign also hosted three impactful livestream webinars, featuring mental health professionals, advocacy experts, and creators, which attracted 417,000 viewers.
These sessions, coupled with a dedicated #ThinkTwice resource hub that recorded 300,000 visits, underline TikTok’s mission to make a tangible difference.
“Online safety is a shared responsibility,” said Waskito Jati, Outreach and Partnership Manager for TikTok.
“By working together with civil society, industry partners, educators, and creators, we empower users to think responsibly and shape a positive digital culture.”
TikTok’s #ThinkTwice campaign isn’t just about views and clicks; it’s about creating a ripple effect of kindness and accountability.
As Malaysians pledge to think before they share, comment, or post, the platform is proving that a healthier, more inclusive internet is within reach—one thoughtful action at a time.
