Star Media Group has appointed group CTO Kang Yew Jin to COO effective January 2021, according to Kang’s LinkedIn. Kang who has been the group CTO since April 2018, focused on the digital transformation of Star’s group of companies which include traditional print business, events business, property business and traditional radio.
During his time as CTO, he also oversaw digital improvements of digital focused businesses such as streaming video and OTT (dimsum) and the online and mobile news portals.
Also mentioned on his LinkedIn during his experience as CTO is that he helped define the Group’s architecture roadmap and oversees its implementation while working closely with the Head of Analytics to set up Star Media Group’s Analytics Centre of Excellence.
Prior to Star Media Group, Kang was with Hong Leong Bank as chief information officer for more than two years where he managed IT for the bank which included group infrastructure services and oversaw international offices in Singapore, Vietnam, and Cambodia. Other past experiences include working at OCBC Bank, AmBank, IBM Global Services, MetLife, and Accenture.
Star Media Group’s technology, analytics, circulation, and production departments will now report to Kang in his new position.
