Grab and OpenAI Join Forces to Develop Advanced AI Solutions

By The Malketeer

Grab, the leading superapp in Southeast Asia, has announced a groundbreaking collaboration with OpenAI, the renowned artificial intelligence research company.

This first-of-its-kind partnership for OpenAI in the region aims to build and deploy advanced AI solutions that will enhance the Grab experience for users, partners, and employees.

Focus on Accessibility, Customer Support, and Mapping

The collaboration will focus on three key areas initially: accessibility, customer support, and mapping.

Grab plans to leverage OpenAI’s state-of-the-art text and voice capabilities to make its services more accessible to visually impaired or elderly users who may find it challenging to navigate the on-screen app interface.

Additionally, the companies will explore using AI technology to develop customer support chatbots that can better understand user problems and provide faster resolutions.

Furthermore, Grab will seek to leverage OpenAI’s vision capabilities to enhance its map-making efforts through greater automation and higher-quality data extraction from visual images.

Delivering Better Experience to Consumers and Driver-Partners

This will enable GrabMaps to be updated even faster, delivering a better experience to consumers and driver-partners.

Beyond developing AI solutions for users and partners, Grab also intends to deploy OpenAI’s ChatGPT Enterprise among select employees through an initial pilot programme.

This move complements Grab’s existing efforts to drive wider adoption of AI tools across its employee base, boosting productivity and efficiency.

“We’ve been a pioneer of AI adoption in the region, and believe that generative AI has a lot of potential to further transform the way we solve problems for our partners and users,” said Philipp Kandal, Chief Product Officer at Grab.

“We’re excited to work with OpenAI as a partner to help accelerate the exploration and use of this technology within Grab. Our goal with any new technology has always been to use it to solve real problems, at scale. Equipped with the latest tools, we look forward to building novel and delightful experiences for our customers while improving the way that every Grabber works, he continued.

This collaboration combines OpenAI’s technical and strategic expertise with Grab’s deep understanding of the specific needs of users in Southeast Asia.

By leveraging OpenAI’s cutting-edge AI capabilities, Grab aims to provide tailored solutions that will revolutionise the way its users, partners, and employees interact with and experience the platform.
