Lay and Shune

(marketingmagazine.com.my) – JY Lay is the latest talent to join BBDO Malaysia as their Creative Director focusing on digital growth. Lay joined BBDO after a very successful stint in Creative Juice/TBWA where he picked up several awards in Cannes, Spikes, Kancils, Effie, LIA, NY Fest.

Lay a Proximity alumni, was in the digital team during Proximity’s heyday and was instrumental in some of controversial work for Fonterra’s “Semak Gula” which back in the day caused a storm in the Growing up Milk Powder category.

Another earlier addition is Shune who also joined from Creative Juice/TBWA as a Creative Director. There he was famous for his work on Nando’s, Cornetto and Tesco. One of the most sought after copy-based CDs in Malaysia, Shune comes from a below-the-line background who is talented in creating memorable copies.

He was previously at Rapp Collins, AirAsia, Mindvalley and after Creative Juice Kuala Lumpur. A champion of brave work and he has worked on accounts such as BMW, Tune Hotel, Unilever (Wall’s, Cornetto, Lipton, Planta, Dove) Air Asia, F&N Malaysia, Giant, Tesco, McDonalds, Red FM.

“I’m really happy to be reunited with Lay and Shune, some of the guys I really enjoyed working with in my previous stint. The kind of guys who get us excited to go to work everyday just to see what they cook up with the team. They are Yin and Yang of sorts. Total opposites who make magical work together. One logic, one magic. I’m so excited about the kinda work we are gonna cook up here at BBDO. We’ve also got a really young creative team under them with some of the best talent in town,” shared VJ Anand ECD BBDO Malaysia

John Teoh, General Manager of BBDO Malaysia shared “It’s fantastic to see Lay come home to BBDO. More than just a great creative talent, he has amassed a wealth of experience and knowledge in digital which I believe will contribute immensely to our efforts in growing our digital offering. BBDO has always been a great place for creativity and I am confident that with VJ, Shune and Lay’s creative leadership, BBDO Malaysia will continue to thrive and produce great work for all our Clients. I would definitely watch this space!”

BBDO has been strengthened its creative team not just with the addition of the senior hires. In the last 8 months, they have hired some of the best young creatives in the country. Krystle Morais and Tatt, who joins from Leo Burnett Malaysia. Dafi who joins from Dentsu Indonesia – a Cannes Lions Finalist and a Young Spikes Indonesia Winner, Mindy who joins from a Saatchi & Saatchi Malaysia, Niamh Spurr theater actor turned writer to name a few. With some of the best young creative teams in town, BBDO Malaysia has exciting times ahead.

After 20 years of evolving technology, shifting market trends, and adapting to changing consumer behaviour, the media landscape has nearly reached saturation.

We’ve optimised to the fullest, providing advertisers with abundant choices across technology, platforms, data-driven marketing, CTV, OTTDOOHinfluencer marketing, retail, etc.

Media specialists have diversified, but with more options comes the challenge of maintaining income growth. The industry is expanding, but revenue isn’t keeping pace.

Now, we’re at a TURNING POINT: time to explore and harness new sustainable revenue streams. While GroupM forecasts a 7.8% global ad revenue growth in 2024, challenges like antitrust regulation, AI and copyright issues, and platform bans persist.

Collaboration is keypartnerships that thrive on synergy, shared values, and aligned goals are becoming increasingly essential.

Hence, the Malaysian Media Conference, in its 20th year, has assembled the partners and players under one roof on October 25 for a day of learning, sharing, and exploring.
