In a not so jolly move earlier this week, U Mobile released a series of Christmas jingles dedicated to its three competitors Digi, Celcom and Maxis.

The videos showed a group of singers dressed in orange adapting popular Christmas jingles into personalised messages to their competitors.

Jingle Bells something smells, oh wait that your style, Anger your subscribers till they run to U Mobile” – A lyric from U Mobile’s Christmas jingle dedicated to Maxis.

The videos, however, were short lived.

In less than 24 hours of the videos being launched the brand removed the three videos from its Facebook page.

In an email response to MARKETING Tiffany Chew, Head of Corporate Communications at U Mobile issued the following statement:

“Our Christmas jingle was meant to be taken with a large dose of humour and nothing more. Though rather well received, we do respect that it might have upset some people and that was really not our intent. We’d like to take this opportunity to wish everyone a fantastic festive season and a great start to 2017.”
