WHATSAPP TO INTRODUCE ADS IN STATUS AND CHANNELS, FOCUS ON USER EXPERIENCE

By The Malketeer

In a strategic move to monetise the widely used messaging platform, WhatsApp is set to roll out advertisements in its Status messages and Channels feature, as confirmed by WhatsApp head, Will Cathcart.

Cathcart emphasised that these ads are designed to enhance the user experience, assuring users that they will not intrude into their chatboxes. The targeted placement of ads exclusively within the app’s story-like features ensures a seamless and non-disruptive interaction for users.

Speaking to Brazilian media, Cathcart revealed potential monetisation avenues, stating, “There could be ads in other places—channels or status. For example, channels might charge people to subscribe, they might be exclusive to paid members, or the owners might want to promote the channel. But, no, we won’t put ads in your inbox.”

This strategic move is poised to open new possibilities for revenue generation while prioritising user satisfaction and maintaining the integrity of personal conversations within the app. WhatsApp users can expect a thoughtful and user-centric implementation of ads, enhancing the overall messaging experience.
