Rachel Tan leaves Shopee after over 4 years as Marketing Lead

Yesterday marked Rachel Tan’s last day as Marketing Lead of Shopee after spending over 4 years in the position.

As Marketing Lead, Rachel was responsible for all marketing implementations and business strategies and implemented structures and workflow to ensure growth of a startup eCommerce while ensuring objectives are met.

Seeing that the e-commerce platform is only a little over 5 years old, Rachel also managed, groomed and hired a team of marketing associates, event planners, graphic designers, campaigns, PR and social media strategists as she helped the company grow.

In an email she sent out today announcing her departure, Rachel referred to her time in Shopee as the most memorable and wonderful four and a half years. In her own words, these were some of her firsts with the company:

  • 1st time launching an ecommerce app in Malaysia and achieving #1 Shopping app on Google Play and App Store in less than 2 years
  • 1st of the many big campaigns which saw us grew month on month consistently to become a brand that users now love and enjoy
  • 1st time getting partners to support us when we had none in the early days to now, working with all of you

Rachel, who won Best Marketer in e-Commerce Marketing at the 2019 CMO Awards, will be starting her new role today, as Head of Business for Oxwhite, an e-commerce lifestyle brand that operates on a direct-to-consumer model, providing a range of premium quality products from apparel to home & living essentials at an affordable price.

Rachel Tan who won Best Marketer in e-Commerce Marketing at the 2019 CMO Awards poses on stage after accepting her award, with President of Malaysian CMO Awards, Professor Harmandar Singh and CEO of Visual Retale, VK Sailendra.

“Besides my passion for content management, I am also very passionate about helping brands grow,” said Rachel. I am grateful for the experience I’ve had at Shopee, working with people who were always ready to push the boundaries and I’m both sad and excited for this transition.”

Prior to her stint with Shopee, Rachel was the Country Manager for Nom Nom Media (now known as Nuffnang) before she founded In Real Life (IRL) Media which runs its own publisher curating personal stories with the aim to inspire others through real life experiences, and helps growing businesses and SMEs build their digital presence and marketing capabilities.
