An impressive line-up of judges at Kancils 2018
The Association of Accredited Advertising Agents of Malaysia (4As) has not only organised an inaugural two-day creative festival but also cast a spotlight on the high-spirited judging deliberations involving its front line cast of juries.
In an industry first, “Take A Peek Inside the Jury Room” allows a select group of young rising stars (under the age of 30) to be a ‘fly on the wall’ inside the Kancils 2018 jury rooms, whilst “A Chat with the Chiefs” provides the creative fraternity with a rare opportunity in which the Kancils 2018 jury heads will discuss their insights and observations, sharing their perspectives on what works and what doesn’t at the shows.
Led by Jury Chairperson Gigi Lee, Chief Creative Officer, TBWA\Group Malaysia, and Deputy Chairperson Emir Shafri, Executive Creative Director, Y&R, the Chief Juries this year comprise some of the most celebrated creatives and seasoned judges in Asia.
They include David Guerrero, Creative Chairman, BBDO Guerrero Philippines; Kazoo Sato, Chief Creative Officer, TBWA\Hakuhodo Tokyo; Daniel Kee, Executive Creative Director, MullenLowe Singapore; Pann Lim, Co-founder and Creative Director, Kinetic Singapore; and Woon Siew Hoh, Chief Creative Officer, Hakuhodo Asia Pacific.
“Humanity has never been more important to the world, and is something we need to celebrate more than ever.
“Humanity to me, is also the secret to all the best work. Right now feels like a really positive and interesting time for both the Kancils and Malaysia as a whole.
“So I’m really looking forward to working with the jury in showcasing the best of the best this year,” said David Guerrero on this year’s Kancil’s theme – ‘Celebrating Humanity in Creativity, Technology, and Culture’.
In keeping with the festival theme, Kancils 2018 will also see the introduction of several new award categories including; The Culture Kancils, for the creative use of cultural insight in ad campaigns; Kancil for Good, for purpose-driven creative ideas that have a positive impact on community, society or the environment; The Effectiveness Kancils, for the best use of results-oriented creativity.
These categories will see accomplished special guest juries such as Eddin Khoo, Head of Pusaka; Yap Mun Ching, Executive Director, Air Asia Foundation; and Dr Hartini Zainudin, Founder, Yayasan Chow Kit in a passionate deliberation to uncover Malaysia’s best creative ideas.
“With the coming together of the region’s most brillant and creative minds, each bringing their unique sensibilities to the understanding of the Kancils 2018 theme, it is our hope that the public at large will be able to appreciate the type of work that celebrates the beauty of the human experience, inspiring new compelling ideas in our lives,” said Jury Chairperson Gigi Lee.

After 20 years of evolving technology, shifting market trends, and adapting to changing consumer behaviour, the media landscape has nearly reached saturation.
We’ve optimised to the fullest, providing advertisers with abundant choices across technology, platforms, data-driven marketing, CTV, OTT, DOOH, influencer marketing, retail, etc.
Media specialists have diversified, but with more options comes the challenge of maintaining income growth. The industry is expanding, but revenue isn’t keeping pace.
Now, we’re at a TURNING POINT: time to explore and harness new sustainable revenue streams. While GroupM forecasts a 7.8% global ad revenue growth in 2024, challenges like antitrust regulation, AI and copyright issues, and platform bans persist.
Collaboration is key: partnerships that thrive on synergy, shared values, and aligned goals are becoming increasingly essential.
Hence, the Malaysian Media Conference, in its 20th year, has assembled the partners and players under one roof on October 25 for a day of learning, sharing, and exploring.
