Media Prima Bhd has appointed veteran newsman Jasbant Singh as its group managing editor effective Nov 1, with Farrah Naz Abdul Karim to serve as his deputy.
Jasbant, who was FMT’s managing editor for three years, will head Media Prima’s news and current affairs division in his new role, overseeing the editorial operations of Media Prima Television Networks (MPTN) and New Straits Times Press Bhd (NSTP).
This follows the retirement of Ahmad Zaini Kamaruzzaman as NSTP managing editor and Berita Harian group editor after 33 years with the company.
Farrah Naz will continue in her role as group editor of New Straits Times, which she was appointed to in September 2022, while reporting to Jasbant.
“The integration of our news operations under a single division along with the new appointments are part of Media Prima’s efforts to enhance operational efficiencies and create greater synergies to ensure the group strengthens its position as the leading news provider in the country.
“Jasbant and Farrah Naz’s extensive backgrounds in journalism are invaluable assets to Media Prima as we continue to strengthen our digital, print and broadcast media outlets,” the company said in a statement.
Jasbant has spent over 30 years working in print media, television and news portals, including international media outlets like AP and Al Jazeera.
He had also led TV3’s news division before becoming its deputy current affairs manager. Most recently, he was the head of MPTN’s news operations, overseeing TV3, TV9, 8TV and DidikTV KPM.
Farrah Naz had served at NSTP in various capacities since 2000, including as executive editor. She was an executive producer at MPTN for its current affairs programmes before being made New Straits Times group editor.
