Nikon Malaysia has announced yesterday that it will officially cease operations by next year as the company’s authorised distributors are set to take over different aspects of its business operations. The announcement was made through its official website and social media channels.
“We are grateful for our passionate community’s support and loyalty through the years with us, and it has been a pleasure serving both the Imaging and Industrial Metrology fields in Malaysia,” Nikon Malaysia wrote in the announcement.
All of Nikon Malaysia’s Imaging business will be handled by local partner Futuromic Photo AV Sdn Bhd to serve as Nikon’s marketing, sales and after-sales service for its products and activities in Malaysia. Meanwhile, the distribution of its Industrial Metrology business in the country will be handed over to QES (Asia Pacific) Sdn Bhd.
“Brands are allowing appointed agents to handle the marketing and sales of their business to avoid high manpower costs, rental and other marketing cost,” said an industry observer who commented on Nikon’s announcement being a clever move. “By doing so, these company are able focus on other activities.”
