Astro wins top Digital Transformer award

Astro has been awarded ‘Digital Transformer in Malaysia’ by International Data Corporation ASEAN in its inaugural Digital Transformation Awards (IDC DX Awards).

The IDC DX Awards recognise outstanding organizations that have made critical breakthroughs in digital transformation across Asia Pacific.

Dato Rohana Rozhan, Group CEO of Astro, said, “In our journey of reinvention, Astro is embracing change brought about by digital, online and mobile while staying true as a consumer-focused company. Our household proposition has been strong over the past 20 years, and today we serve 72% of total Malaysian households.”

The company has launched and built digital consumer brands such as Astro GO and Tribe, Malaysia’s local and regional OTT service. Also ecommerce platform Go Shop, top Malay entertainment portal Gempak, plus leading digital news platform Awani.

Today Astro operates over 40 digital brands across websites and apps, reaching almost 7 million unique visitors per month.

Astro’s digital transformation project was selected among hundreds of entries from end-user organisations across the Asia Pacific region.

“One of the most important steps in a successful digital transformation journey is to be able to visualize where the company needs to be in the near future, and how digital technologies can play a role. This require both business and technology teams working together, supported by the top leadership of the company,” commented Pranabesh Nath, Research Director at IDC Malaysia.

After 20 years of evolving technology, shifting market trends, and adapting to changing consumer behaviour, the media landscape has nearly reached saturation.

We’ve optimised to the fullest, providing advertisers with abundant choices across technology, platforms, data-driven marketing, CTV, OTTDOOHinfluencer marketing, retail, etc.

Media specialists have diversified, but with more options comes the challenge of maintaining income growth. The industry is expanding, but revenue isn’t keeping pace.

Now, we’re at a TURNING POINT: time to explore and harness new sustainable revenue streams. While GroupM forecasts a 7.8% global ad revenue growth in 2024, challenges like antitrust regulation, AI and copyright issues, and platform bans persist.

Collaboration is keypartnerships that thrive on synergy, shared values, and aligned goals are becoming increasingly essential.

Hence, the Malaysian Media Conference, in its 20th year, has assembled the partners and players under one roof on October 25 for a day of learning, sharing, and exploring.
