Shopee Philippines under fire

K-pop group Blackpink fans are fuming at Shopee.

E-commerce platform Shopee Philippines issued an apology early today to angry Filipino fans for the Blackpink meet-and-greet yesterday, which many have called a scam.

The event disappointed fans so much that there is even a hashtag #ShopeeScam trend on Philippine Twitter yesterday and this morning to express their frustrations.

The problem started when Shopee held an online promo where customers who racked up the highest amount of money by shopping on their site would be given tickets to meet the South Korean girl group yesterday at the SM Aura in Taguig City.

The e-commerce platform only allotted 568 tickets for the promo, and the top 40 spenders during the promo period could get autographs from Blackpink members Lisa, Rosé, Jennie Kim, and Jisoo.

However, angry fans alleged that Shopee had scammed them because after the shopping site informed them that they have won a ticket, the company allegedly took their tickets back, saying there was a system error.

According to some fans online, the tickets were given to artists and influencers instead.

Fans then took to Twitter to explain their anger.

“These are the people who got scammed by shoppee, this is just so unfair, these blinks spent so much money just to see them. Shoppee just scammed them and gave the tickets to ‘ArTist and InfLueNCer’ I mean half of them weren’t even blinks,” Twitter user @imjinspantss claimed.
