YouTube Shorts is the video streaming company’s answer to TikTok and it looks like the Google-owned company may also be competing with TikTok Shop, the unique shopping features found on TikTok. Starting in the United States, YouTube is currently testing shopping features and affiliate marketing on Shorts with eligible creators.
As reported by Tech Crunch, YouTube confirmed the plans to introduce shopping features and affiliate marketing on Shorts in the near future.
The company is in the midst of testing the ability to tag products from creators’ own stores, whereby viewers in the United States, India, Brazil, Canada and Australia can see the tags and purchase them through Shorts.
YouTube further elaborated that the feature will be expanded to more creators and countries soon. As for the affiliate marketing programme, YouTube clarified that it will allow creators to earn commissions through purchases of recommended products in their Shorts and regular videos.
As of right now, YouTube has not revealed when the shopping features and affiliate marketing programme will go official or whether it would be expanded to Malaysia. Well, we just have to wait to find out.
