KPDNKK causes major cock-up with Chinese New Year rooster ad
As the world ushers in the Year of the Dog and said their goodbyes to the Year of the Rooster, the Malaysian government officials from the Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism Ministry (KPDNKK) seemed to have the idea to merge both animals.
The full-page advertisement published in the Malaysian major newspaper, Sin Chew Daily featured a rooster crowing or rather barking, “Wang! Wang!”
“Wang” is used to represent a dog’s bark in Mandarin.
The advertisement also carried a message, which read: “We welcome a prosperous year of the dog. We wholeheartedly wish people from all walks of life a happy lunar new year.”
The ad sparked mockery online.
The ministry issued an apology and said a “technical error” was behind the mistake, without saying how they had intended the ad to appear.
“We deeply regret any inconvenience,” said a statement from spokesman Luqman Hakim Abd Malik.
Famous Malaysian YouTuber So I’m Jenn even released a video on it:
