(marketingmagazine.com.my) – SY Lau, currently the Senior Executive Vice President of Tencent and President of Online Media Group, has recently stepped up to the role of Chairman for Tencent Advertising and chairman of group marketing and global branding for the Chinese internet firm.
Tencent’s chief operation officer Mark Ren Yuxin will now be taking on the role of President of the Online Media Group.
SY who was recently awarded Alumnus of the Year from INTI International University and Colleges joined Tencent in 2006 and since then had contributed significantly towards the growth of the company.
“Tencent online advertising revenue grew from 267 million yuan to 26.97 billion yuan between 2006 and 2016. Lau is expected to push forward the company’s advertising business to a new level,” the company shared in its release announcing the new appointment.
The new appointments according to the company contributed towards its globalisation strategy and marked an increased significance in the company’s advertising business.
China-based Tencent is globally known for its popular messaging app WeChat which boasts a user base of 762 million users. Last Wednesday the company reported a total revenue of USD 21.9 billion for the fiscal year 2016, this according to a report in CNBC marked a growth of 48% from one year ago and was the company’s biggest increase since 2012.
