The APPIES Malaysia 2024: Nurturing Tomorrow’s Marketing Talents

The APPIES Malaysia Marketing Festival 2024 (11-12 July) kicked off with a poignant launch of the Judging and Presentations event, highlighting its unwavering commitment to fostering young talent in the marketing industry.

Prof. Harmandar Singh, also known as Ham, the driving force behind this annual event in Malaysia, shared his personal reflections on the Festival’s impact and its role in shaping the future of marketing education in a Facebook posting.

A Decade of Dedication

Now in its ninth year, The APPIES Malaysia has become a cornerstone event for aspiring marketers.

Prof. Ham expressed his continued enthusiasm for the Festival’s mission, stating, “Nine years on, the mission to help young talent grow has never energised me more.”

This dedication underscores the event’s significance in bridging the gap between academia and industry.

Judges: The Pillars of Success

The success of The APPIES Malaysia is largely attributed to its esteemed panel of judges.

Prof. Ham acknowledged their crucial role, saying, “I have the judges to thank, for believing in The APPIES.”

Their expertise and commitment have been instrumental in maintaining the event’s high standards and relevance in the ever-evolving marketing landscape.

Investing in the Future: Free Student Access

One of the Festival’s lesser-known initiatives is its policy of inviting select students to attend the events free of charge.

This year, a group of Social Communications Bachelor’s degree students from the Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris (UPSI) in Tanjung Malim, were among the fortunate attendees.

This gesture not only provides invaluable exposure to industry practices but also demonstrates The APPIES’ commitment to nurturing young talent beyond the competition itself.

A Full-Circle Moment

For Prof. Ham, this year’s event held a special significance.

He revealed his involvement in developing the curriculum for the Social Communications degree programme at UPSI, working alongside Prof. Dr. Mohammed Zin Nordin, Department of Communication and Media, Faculty of Languages and Communication.

The presence of students from this very programme at The APPIES 2024 created an emotional full-circle moment for Prof. Ham, highlighting the far-reaching impact of his contributions to marketing education.

“It almost brought tears to my eyes to find that out,” he wrote.

As The APPIES Malaysia Marketing Festival 2024 unfolds, it continues to serve as a vital platform in showcasing marketing excellence and, more importantly, as a nurturing ground for the next generation of marketing professionals.

Through its competitions, educational initiatives, and industry exposure, The APPIES is playing a crucial role in shaping the future of marketing in Malaysia and beyond.
