FREE MCDONALD’S FOR LIFE?
Stand a chance to get free fast food for life at McDonald’s with the McGold Card Sweepstakes.
Anyone using the chain’s mobile app from Aug 10 to 24 will automatically get a chance to enter the sweepstake.An individual only needs to use the mobile order and pay app and it is restricted to one entry per customer a day.
McDonalds free for life is defined as two meals a week for up to 50 years which is the equivalent of more than $52,000.
McDonald’s franchisees in the US does sometimes offer local heroes free food with their own versions of the card. For example Rob Lowe bragged about having a McDonald’s Gold Card thanks to a connection to Herb Peterson, the McDonald’s franchisee who created the Egg McMuffin.
And Warren Buffett told CNBC he had a McDonald’s card that allowed him to order unlimited food for free in Omaha.
However, there are only two major confirmed stories of people possessing cards granting them free, unlimited McDonald’s meals anywhere in the country, or even the world.
While campaigning for president in 2012, Mitt Romney told a story of how his father had a “little pink card” that awarded him free McDonald’s for life.
McDonald’s confirmed that its founder Ray Kroc had given him the card.
The other lucky recipient of a lifetime of free McDonald’s is Bill Gates.
According to Buffett, Gates’ card works worldwide. But it’s unclear how often Gates stops by McDonald’s these days, since the Gates Foundation Asset Trust liquidated its position in the fast-food company in February 2015.
This is the first time that McDonald’s is giving a McGold Card to one of its customers.
The raffle is exclusive to the McDonald’s app, which allows customers to order in advance from their mobile phones, customise their orders and get direct access to exclusive offers.
The Mobile Order & Pay service also allows customers to make their orders as they wish.
The food can be taken to the customer’s car, they can pick it up at the restaurant or through the Drive Thru.
“Mobile Order & Pay is just one of the most recent ways in which we are transforming convenience and value for our customers,” said Hashim Amin, Head of McDonald’s Digital Division in the US.
“To celebrate the launch of the Mobile Order & Pay service, we will give one of our mobile service customers the chance to win the McGold Card and become part of a select group of McDonald’s fans, just by using the application.”
The winner of the McGold Card will also receive a personalized case for the phone, in 24 carat gold, to celebrate his initiation into history and the mystery surrounding the existence of the McGold Card, all driven by the McDonald’s application in 2018. Only one card will be given after August 24.
At the Arch Gateway presentation ceremony in 1965, McDonald’s delivered its first McGold Card to the mayor of St. Louis, MO, granting him the privilege of free lunch at McDonald’s for life.
From that day on, the company has delivered a small and select amount of McGold Cards to leading figures ranging from the Governor of Michigan to the King of Sweden.
The Mobile Order & Pay service of the McDonald’s app is available in almost 14,000 restaurants in the US.
