7-Eleven Malaysia CEO resigns

According to local news reports, 7-Eleven Malaysia Holdings Bhd (SEM) has appointed Ho Meng as acting chief executive officer, effective Aug 1, as the company’s current CEO Gary Thomas Brown has decided to leave the company.

Citing personal reasons as the cause of his departure, the company issued the following statement to the press,

“The board would like to thank Brown for his contributions to SEM and wish him success in all his future endeavours,”

Prior to joining 7-Eleven Gary held the role of business development Director at Berjaya Group.

The newly appointed Ho Meng was appointed by 7-Eleven as non-independent executive director in 2013 before being re-designated as a non-independent non-executive director on April 29, 2016.

His experience includes serving in DiGi Telecommunications for almost a decade and leaving the company in 2005 as its chief financial officer.

The 24-hour concept retail store is in a constant state of expansion last year the company marked the launch of its 2000th store in Malaysia.

The company was also announced as one of the selected 15 retail companies in Malaysia to launch its retail store in the newly launched 19 elevated stations of the Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) Sungai Buloh-Kajang line.

2016 ended on a sweet note for the company as the company clinched the Bronze award in the retail category for the Putra Brand awards.

“The board would like to thank Brown for his contributions to SEM and wish him success in all his future endeavours,” said the company in a separate statement.
