Astro has strengthened its senior leadership team with three key appointments aimed at advancing commercial performance, digital expansion and customer-led growth.

Tai Kam Leong has moved into the expanded position of Chief Commercial Officer, while Christinne Lim returns to Astro as Chief Marketing Officer. Digital industry veteran René E. Menezes completes the refreshed line-up as Chief Digital Growth Officer.
The restructuring signals Astro’s intention to bring its commercial, marketing and digital capabilities into closer alignment as the media group explores new revenue opportunities and deepens its connection with audiences and advertisers.
Tai, who joined Astro as Chief Sales and Marketing Officer in November 2022, was redesignated as Chief Commercial Officer in July 2026.
In the expanded role, he will lead Astro’s integrated commercial strategy across its various revenue streams. His responsibilities include overseeing advertising expenditure opportunities through Astro Media Solutions, as well as aligning strategic partnerships, audience solutions and emerging market opportunities.
Tai brings more than 20 years of experience across commercial leadership, marketing and business strategy.
Before joining Astro, he served as Head of Brand and Marketing at Maxis, where his portfolio included innovation ventures, strategic partnerships and digital marketing. He also previously managed the telecommunications company’s home broadband and fibre business.
His earlier career included senior agency positions such as Managing Director of Rapp Singapore and Chief Strategy Officer at DDB Group Singapore. He also spent more than six years leading strategic planning at Naga DDB and previously worked at Leo Burnett.
Tai said Astro plans to introduce enhanced solutions, new commercial strategies and next-generation digital capabilities in the coming months.
The wider ambition is to combine Astro’s content properties and audience reach to help brands create more distinctive consumer experiences while delivering stronger campaign outcomes.

Christinne’s appointment marks a return to Astro after she gained additional commercial leadership experience outside the organisation.
Christinne most recently served as Chief Commercial Officer at property developer S P Setia. Before that, she was Chief Executive Officer of Astro Go Shop and had spent more than 16 years at Astro in leadership roles covering corporate finance, premium business, content strategy and marketing.
During her previous tenure, Christinne led marketing initiatives across Astro’s products, services and content offerings. She was also involved in group-wide business strategy and the development of new growth opportunities.
Christinne played an important role in establishing Astro’s content marketing capabilities and positioning differentiated content as a competitive advantage for the company.
Her previous portfolio included the marketing of prominent products, programmes and entertainment properties such as Astro B.yond, Ultra Box, NJOI, Astro GO, the FIFA World Cup, Game of Thrones and Oh My English!.
She also founded Astro On Demand, a premium business division created to generate additional revenue through upselling and greater customer value.
In her renewed role, Christinne is expected to connect customer understanding more closely with business strategy, product development and the overall customer experience.
She said marketing should extend beyond communication and focus on understanding people, identifying what matters to customers and building stronger relationships through relevant stories and experiences.
Her priority will be to reinforce Astro’s connection with Malaysians and maintain the brand’s position as a trusted and meaningful part of their daily lives.

René joins Astro’s commercial leadership structure with more than 26 years of experience in Southeast Asia’s digital marketing, media and advertising technology sectors.
Throughout his career, René has founded and led several companies, including Yellow Brick Road, Media 2.0, CtrlShift and Involve Asia.
He was also a founding member and former president of the Malaysian Digital Association.
As Chief Digital Growth Officer, René oversees Astro’s digital growth efforts across KULT, Digital Business, and Digital Campaign and Operations.
His mandate centres on developing new revenue opportunities by combining Astro’s capabilities across content, audience data, creators, technology and strategic partnerships.
René believes Astro’s strong content portfolio, established audience relationships and cultural influence provide the company with a valuable platform for digital expansion.
Over the next six months, his focus will be on creating new products and capabilities that generate measurable commercial results and strengthen Astro’s position within the digital advertising and media ecosystem.
The refreshed leadership team arrives as Astro continues to reshape its organisation around digital transformation, customer relevance and sustainable commercial growth.
It also follows a significant change at the top of the company.
Former Group Chief Executive Officer Euan Smith stepped down in June 2026 after six years with Astro. Henry Tan was appointed Interim Group Chief Executive Officer effective 16 June 2026 while the company searches for a permanent successor.
Euan will continue supporting Astro in an advisory capacity until December 2026 to help facilitate the leadership transition.
With Tai overseeing integrated commercial opportunities, Christinne leading customer-focused marketing and René building new digital revenue streams, Astro appears to be laying the groundwork for a more connected and growth-driven operating model.
The appointments also reflect a broader shift within the media industry, where content, commerce, data, technology and customer experience are increasingly expected to operate as part of one unified growth strategy.
